    Harbor Freight Mini Lathe

Fist off, I want to say hello. Been lurking for awhile, thought it was time to join. Well, after much reading, I went and got a Harbor Freight 7X10 mini lathe. When I took the box home and opened it up, the sticker on the mini lathe said 7X12 instead of 7X10, for that was what I bought. My question is, how could I tell from a 7X10 to a 7X12 mini lathe?

    Thanks in advance,
    Charly

Measure it........ the 7 x 10 is just that 7 inches by 10 inches (The bed length and width) the 7 by 12 is 12 inches long. bed length not the whole machine.

Thanks Fixittt, will do. Also, I read a post stating that the 7X12 is actually 4" longer. What does that mean?

I have no idea about that, it maybe overall length.

here is a great resource site on these lathes. I have the 7x10 that I use for wax work. I love the little machine and use it ALOT!

7 is the swing from centerline of the chuck to bed and 10 is distance between centers (assuming you install centers into the chuck area and tailstock). hope that helps...Some (most) have been lucky enough to get the extended bed for the same machine.

Hi 12six. Welcome to the Zone!

The HF 7 x 10 is ACTUALLY only 8 inches between centers. That's why the 7 x 12 is 4 inches longer. My 7 x 10, measured at the chip tray on the bottom, is 23 5/8 inches long.

My Micro Mark 7 x 14 chip tray measures 29 5/8 inches long.

    CR.
