| Hi all, I just picked a Taig lathe, and have been looking at fitting a lead screw and half nuts with a removable gear carrier, but then I saw that you can just fit the lead screw and a stepper/servo and a shaft encoder and use some CNC software to drive the lead screw for threads. Has anyone done such a conversion on their taig? If so, how does it perform? I'm a newbie to steppers and servos, so what do people think are better for this type of application? What software would people recommend? Which drivers? And to take it one step further, has anyone CNC'ed the cross slide on a taig? Cheers from Oz, and thanks in advance for any responses! |
