Mike,
You have to add an idler gear in the gear chain. That wil reverse the direction of the leadscrew relative to the rotation of the spindle.

How do I change autofeed direction on my Harbor freight model BV-920 lathe? It feeds into the headstock, not away from it. It will feed away from the head stock if I change the motor direction but then the spindle spins reverse as well. Is it ok to cut with the spindle spinning the wrong way? Is there a way to make it auto feed away from the headstock and still have the spindle rotate toward me?
(I'm relativly new to machining, only had one class back in college)
thanks.

Its often refered to as the LH or left hand threading mod.
surf the web there are several good sites, don't limit the views of other lathes as they all pretty much work the same way 9x20 7x10 etc.

well the 7x10 lathe actually is easy, all you have to do is flip the directional feed bar on theback of the lathe to change feed towards or away from the chuck. You can spin the chuck clockwise or counter clockwise as well. They already have that feature built into the lathe so no mods are required...not sure about the 9x20 though, my other lathe is the grizzly 11x26
