I recently acquired a Intelitek 0400 CNC lathe with the accompanying CNC tool changer shown in the link below.... http://www.intelitek.com/products/pr...&pid=2&did=233 I would like to convert this lathe/tool changer combination to system that uses a non-Intelitek controller and software. What do you suggest? Also are there any other upgrades I should make (improved motors, etc.)? Thanks TMT |

Okay....I'll ask the question differently. What is the preferred approach today to convert an Intelitek CNC lathe with tool changer to use a different controller and software? Thanks TMT |

| What does the cable coming out of the tool changer represent (i.e., is it stepper wires or driver and relay wires)? What kind of drivers drive the steppers? Do they accept step and direction signals or is there some proprietary relation between the drives and the pci/isa board that they put in the computer? You need to identify what signals that the lathe and the tool changer expects and then figure out how to provide those signals. It may involve building a new controller with appropriate BOB, drives and relays. Alan

| I updated my Intellitek sherline mill using a Xylotex board and newer bi-polar stepper motors. I would think if you went with the 3 axis setup you could use 2 of them for the lathe travel axis and one for indexing the tool changer. Xylotex is the cheapest easiest way to go I could find and the service is A+ if you have any questions. Really easy conversion to make. Whatever you decide do not bother spending your money on anything from Intellitek as there are many other options much cheaper and likely better as well. Bowman |

| Thanks for the info. Does anyone have any info for tool changers for the Sherline lathe? If I convert the Intelitek changer over to Xylotex and ?software?, it would help to see what others have done before. thanks TMT |
