my dad just gave me his peerless lathe from his shop and im trying to find some info on the web on it its a peerless pl-53 9-20 lathe made in taiwan it was made 1978
That looks like it was designed after the SouthBend or Myford lathes. Have you picked up a copy of, or they may be a PDF around, of "How To Run Lathe" (very good book that will help alot)? I believe it would help you guys a lot. Its pretty basic stuff of the controls of a manual lathe and the differnt types. For something this old and design it should guide you quit well. I see them on Ebay and many other places. The brake down of the parts of the SouthBend or Myford would also probably help you. Thats what they call a double tumbler gear drive with the trans for changing the gears it has in that pic. SOme of the 9" and 10" SouthBends have that exact same setup.
Here is a link to a site that does have and show a lot of lathes.
Although I don think it will get into operation, but it does list a lot of the models made over the years and there options. May even show your lathes and there options.
I believe the PDF i was thinking about is called "Know Your Lathe" and you should be able to do a google search and find it. Best I remember the pics where not good but the info was very good.
You can find vids on you tube for how to operate lathes also, some from tech schools that are very good.
Hope this helps. Jess
PS, that lathe looks alot like a "Select" lathe out of Tawain.
