Is there any prefered method to getting this aligned? I finally got around to trying to drill a hole. It looks like the tailstock is around 1/4" off center. I see a little set screw on the backside of the tailstock. Does this loosen up the tailstock so that I can align it with deadblow hammer? Or is there a better way? Thanks |

| Hi Deviant, The Tailstock of the Sieg 7x minilathe is truly aweful. Rick Kruger posted this excellent site on aligning this POS. http://warhammer.mcc.virginia.edu/ty...ase/index.html Here is my take on it: http://www.wrathall.com/Interests/ma...ent_check4.htm Good luck.

| Ok, I've decided that my tailstock is a pos.. = P~ Is there anyone that makes a drill chuck that I can mount to my cross slide. The cross slide appears to be "almost" accurate. I'd prefer to have it on a 3/8" tab so that I could mount it in my quick change tool post. *grumbles* |

| I use a Phase II Wedge style QCTP and the set came with a tool holder with Morse 2 female taper, so you can mount a tailstock drill chuck straight in. I can't say I have used it often, as finding center with this is also a PITA: I just mucked around with the tailstock till I got the thing within a couple of thou of centered (at a medium lock down torque, as this affects center height) and use it.

| I don't think the pressure would be much greater than standard turning or using a boring bar. I'm gonna look into a mt taper for my QC post. That or I'm gonna have to make a new tailstock. This one is too annoying. The bottom barely touches in some places... I can see light, even with tighten down. additionally, I think that it is moving from side to side on the taper slide, even with the grub screw borderingon stripping out tight. *grumbles* |
