HI All Benchtop CNC mini lathe Looks like an 8x14 at 229lbs with a 4" chuck This should be interesting Thanks frank Product Features 1. This CNC precision mini lathe is designed to perform various types of processing jobs. Counterface turning, drilling, threading and cutting jobs on materials made up of round bar and bar materials can be performed with this machine. This machine can be used in areas such as mini precison parts processing, sample processing and modeling works 2. This machine is DC motor driven 3. The feed speed can be adjusted according to the requirement of different workpieces, the maximum feed speed can be reached to axes Z: 3 m/min, axes X: 2m/min 4. The spindle speed is infinitely variable from 100 to 2500/3000/3500RPM programme set) Specifications Distance between centres 350mm Swing over bed 200mm Spindle taper MT4 Tailstock taper MT2 Chuck diameter 100mm Spindle bore 25mm Cross slide travel 72mm Tool post size 60*60mm Cutter size 10*10mm Range of metric threads 0.5-2.5mm Range of imperial threads 12-52TPI Spindle accuracy 0.01mm Spindle speed 100-2500/3000/3500RPM Power of motor 750W Voltage/Frequency 230V/50Hz or 120V/60Hz Net weight/Gross weight 104Kg/130Kg Packing size 1055*575*570mm link http://www.made-in-china.com/china- products/productviewXeoJnFxrIQtP/CNC-Mini-Lathe.html company Shanghai Futai Electromechanical Equipment Co., Ltd. | THis will be interesting to see. The MT-4 spindle is a real advatage. If you think about it, there are a lot of parts in a manual lathe (change gears, tumbler reverse) etc which can be replaced by a simple stepper, mount and coupler.... I wonder what software they ripped?

| How would I get my big fat hands in there to clean it? There does'nt look like much space between the bottom of the machine and the chip pan! It looks like a traditional 4 position tool post, is it auto-indexing, or do you move manually? Eric

| Intriguing little machine. And yes, it sure looks like an 8x18. There are a couple of nice upgrades in there, such as a camlock on the tailstock instead of just tightening a screw. I find it intriguing that the cross-slide servo/stepper drive looks like a right angle drive. Not sure what the backlash implications of that would be! I do believe the 9x30 and shorter bed 8x18 variant are the best CNC platforms among the mini-lathes. They are more heavily made than the 9x20's (they don't require the compound modification for rigidity), and the dispense with things like quick change gears out of the box. Widgit, there is more room than you'd think to get under the bed as it sits on two pedestals at the ends. The middle is hidden by the chip guard and apron, but I'll bet that guard flips up somehow. The travelling guard design would be nifty for anyone with one of these lathes. The controller also looks nicely integrated on the front. Somehow the chuck looks small to me. The spec says 100mm, which is just under 4". Also, not clear how productive a CNC machine like this would be commercially with some form of bar feeder. It would be perfectly adequate for prototyping, however. Best, BW |

| Looks pretty good. But what type of control is that? Doesn't say if it has RS232 or USB interface. Beats the hell out of doing a lot of manual operations. I wonder if it has an optional programmable tail stock? You might be able to put a quick change tool post in it too. The Ad says it has a .0004 spindle accuracy.

| Interesting but what I'd like to see in a lathe this size is a spindle bored for 5C collets. It looks like they are real close dimension wise so this is a frustration. The other thing that bothers me is that a slant bed or somehting similar is needed to keep the swarf off the mechanics. |
