    DRO's

Does any body here have DRO's mounted on their lathe ?
Just got a cummins 7-12 and was thinking dros would be a cool addition.

What I was thinking ,was get a couple of those cheap digital calipers modify them and put on the lathe as dros.

Just not sure where or how to mount them .

    Ideas , anybody ?

I think the idea of cheap DRO's is interesting, and the thought struck me- yeah why not just use a set of DRO scales on a lathe.

Of course I'm a machining idiot right now so I am not a source. (that would seem to be affordable though.

By the way, if you have a welder that would seem to be the way to attach the calipers.

    Dave,

Several people have used the Shumatech DRO-350 on mini-mills and mini-lathes. You can use the DRO-350 with either Chinese scales (calipers) or with a QCC-100 adapter board (one per axis) you can use quadrature scales. I have one mounted on an RF30 Mill-Drill using Chinese scales and another one built but not yet mounted on my lathe. There is a Shumatech website and a Shumatech yahoo support group.
