Motor noise

I have a 7x12 and just had to put it in reverse today for the first time (after stalling it). I did power it down before switching direction... so here is the question... Is it normal for it not to sound the same in reverse as in forward?

When the motor direction is reversed it sounds like something is "loose" in it, or kind of like a sewing machine. Not a real bad noise, but certainly different, like something is brushing or rubbing. If this isn't normal does any one know what it is?!

My 7x12 does have a different sound in reverse - the same sound before and after having stalled the lathe. Sounds like the brushes make a little extra noise in reverse.
