Ron,
I recently bought one of the Glanze tools. Last week I used it to do over 1000 parting operations on half inch 303 stainless. It worked like a champ, and is still on the original insert.
I am very happy with it.

I want to purchase an indexable parting tool for my 7 x 12. It has a quick change tool post that accepts 3/8" shank tooling. I don't particular care for the T-shaped cut off blades. There are indexable versions similar to what Shars offers (404-1260; tool holder for self-lock cut off inserts). In addition, Glanze's version sold by Grizzly (T10012). Has anyone tried either of these? I am more interested in Glanze's version. Any recommendations for other indexable parting tools besides these two? Thanks.

Frederic,
Did you buy the Glanze parting tool from Grizzly in the following link? Does it utilize GTN-2 or GTN-3 inserts because Grizzly offer inserts for $10.50 each which seems expensive? Thanks.

Ron,
My earlier post was brief because I was typing on a cellphone screen.
The tool I was referring to is the one in your link, the T10012. I bought two extra inserts for it from Grizzly. Their price is on par with what I found at MSC and Enco.
As far as I can tell, the Grizzly inserts are GTN-2.4 inserts. (Same as GTN-2, but slightly wider.) The Grizzly inserts don't have any markings on them to indicate what they are. And I have not ordered replacements from anyone but Grizzly, so I am not 100% positive.

The Shars version looks like it has more side to side rigidity, but at the expense of maximum diameter. My estimate, based on measuring an insert and then putting the calipers to the pictures of the Shars tool, is that it can handle stock up to 1.25" in diameter.
For most benchtop lathe users, that's more than enough.

Full catalog page, lots more items. Actually the Glanze looks well priced if it includes the block http://www.shars.com/files/products/...011/page75.pdf
