How do you guys true your chuck jaws?

Naturally after years of work your hard jaws get kind of, seasoned, and out to lunch.

At work we have round pieces that we chuck on, the id of the jaws pokes through this piece and then we can bore our jaws.

Or we have rings that have 3 adjustable pins on the side, then you can adjust the diameter of those pins for what ever you want for a rad on your jaws. Just slip them in the chuck jaw bolt hole and snug it up gently.

But for these tiny jaws, what do you guys normally do to true them up? Or how do you keep od tension on your jaws while you bore them?

    Just wondering.

First a silly question - when is the last time you removed the chuck and serviced same?
I find that most of my customers never do this and that is half their problem.
More specifically, is it your jaws that are worn, or the chuck components? Or, is te chuck so full of crap that you cannot chuck anything true?

Either way, I typically try to clamp a slug in the master jaws to bore my top jaws. Typically, they will be set back from the top tooling and you can true them up.

I'm not having any issues, I mean my lathe at work I run 6-10 hours a day, so after a year I usually give the jaws a little skim. After of course cleaning out the chuck.

But the little lathes I have at home, I didn't run my 7x12 long enough to need to touch the jaws. And my 10x18 is brand new so its running true... I was just curious for these little jaws how guys were skimming them to true them up. More so, how they were holding the jaws in place.

I'm not sure i understand your procedure here "Either way, I typically try to clamp a slug in the master jaws to bore my top jaws. Typically, they will be set back from the top tooling and you can true them up"

Yer a mini-lathe salesman? On commission?
Wen I was young, I spent most of my money on fast women, slow horses, and cheap booze. The rest of it I just wasted.
