First photos of CNCFusion 7x** lathe kit (finally)

Hi all, well it has been a long time coming, but the final version of the kit is nearly complete and I thought you all might like to see some pics of it.

There are couple pieces not shown:
1. The Z axis bearing block, which will mount to the plate you see near the tailstock.
2. The Z coupling.
3. The X axis nut mounting block that goes under the cross slide.
4. Adapter bushing for the X leadscrew.
5. Locknuts.

The Z axis is direct drive, while the X axis uses timing pulleys. Six holes will need to be drilled and tapped for M6 cap screws. This is for CNC only, no manual control, (although you can remove the kit for manual use). We highly recommend removing the carriage. The rack and gears in the carriage produce considerable friction. The saddle slides easily by hand without the carriage in place.

Z axis ballscrew is made by Thompson, the same ballscrews we use for the X2/X3 kits. The X axis uses a Thompson XC Series anti backlash, self compensating lead screw.

The following tool list is recommended/required for installation.

TAP WRENCH $9.29 - recommended

5mm DRILL $2.46 - required

M6 TAP $5.95 - required

Transfer Punch Set $7.95 - recommended

C-Clamps $9.99 - recommended

Access to a benchtop mill such as the X1 or X2 would probably be very helpful, but is not required. Along with the installation guide, we will be documenting a mod that can be done with an X2 mill to increase X travel.

We are shooting for a late June release date. Also the kit for larger 9x20 series lathe will be nearly identical to this kit, so hopefully that one will be ready shortly as well.

VERY nice!! What's the projected pricing for the kit?

Thanks Blades. We don't have a firm price yet, as I haven't gotten volume pricing on the X leadscrew yet, (which is the most $$$ part). But I can't see the kit going over $500.

I will be fitting and testing it over memorial day weekend.

Hi Michael

Nice kit. Have you considered offering optional add-ons for those wanting to have thread cutting ability ? otoh those fittings (thinking encoder setups) might vary depending on choice of control.

Hi all, I snapped a few quick pics of the kit with it installed. I will try to get some steppers hooked up this weekend and post some video of the lathe in motion. If all goes well, I will be shooting a little install video, and instructions next week. REALLY going to try to get these ready ship in Nov.

PS: ignore the ugly ballscrew, it was just a scrap one I laying about. Production ballscrews will be nice and shiny
