I NEVER run a lathe without a pipe in my mouth. Safety equipment! I do forget my glasses once in a while.

I don't use glasses when running the lathe, it might get chips in it!
I drink straight from the Corona bottle.

Reminds me of many, MANY years ago when I ran a Bridgeport mill on 2nd shift. A co-worker brought in some "brownies" one night.

I'm not allowed to drink beer anymore, but when I did, I used to love to go out, knock a few back and run the lathe. I keep my hands well clear of everything and usually power fed it. I always knew when I had too much to continue with power tools, as I would try to open or close one of the chucks with the wrong key.

Lol, was that a wife-imposed rule, or self-imposed?

I usually never drink more than 2 anyway (and usually only 1), so my judgement doesn't get too impared.

Still have not heard back from Chris at LMS, so I don't yet know what the deal is with the cnc parts. Either way, I'm not overly-inclined to CNC it after giving it some thought, I'd rather see one in action first. I really have my doubts about the small NEMA 17 stepper requirements. It looks as though you could easily use a bigger NEMA 17 motor for the Z axis, but not for the X axis. All I can think is that Sieg must not have sold many of these, as I've not seen any show up on Youtube.

If I drink one or two beers on regular basis, or drink more on a short term, like a 12 pack over a weekend, My cortisol shoots way up (basically your fight or flight hormone), and my short term memory goes way down, like Alzheimers, asking the same thing over and over. Began having trouble with memory in 2006, and found my cortisol at 2 x the upper limit, but we didn't know why. Never thought a few beers would cause that. One of the symptoms of high cortisol is psychosis, and I was on that edge for a while, where you think things that you would normally think are wrong are right. Knowing alcohol can cause or contribute to memory problems, I backed off and it all cleared up in a few months. Last summer, I went to my brother's change of command ceremony and had quite a few beers, and the memory problems came back about a week after. So, we are pretty sure that is the cause sucks because I love beer. I tried two beers last November, so I know I can have a couple once in a while, but I spread that out over months and only for special occasions. So to say so much off topic, but while rare, if you ever have these symptoms, try obtaining from alcohol for a few months. I also had severe chest pains with anxiety attacks. I still get that a couple times a year, and just knock myself out with some pills, then wake up in 12 hours feeling great

Wow, good thing you were able to find out what was causing that! Too bad it was beer, and not something like lima beans.

BTW knudsen, where do you work at?

IT at the local University. I do a little lab instrumentation service too, that was my last career, so I enjoy helping out. Nnow I enjoy pills, they don't taste as good, but a heck of a lot cheaper with med coverage

I average about ten years, but they were all somewhat related. Avionics->HPLC Factory and Field Service->Service Manager->IT. First and last the most enjoyable. Had several offers for Field Service, $$$, but just can't bring myself to live out of a suit case.

    I got mine.

Haven't done anything with it, other than making sure it works and no parts are missing.

    Thumbs down

After paying and waiting all I got was a lousy post card and a refund. HF epic fail. This was really a crappy way to treat customers. I will now avoid spending money at HF.

FYI: I just ordered a "non-back ordered" machining DVD from Smartflix. Two days AFTER submitting the order ... I find out via email that they don't necessarily have it in stock, and that it's usually just a week or so wait for someone to return a DVD. No indication of what the actual wait time will be.

More pictures please! It will help cheer up this thread. Enjoy the weekend.
