There's that word "Fruadulently" in there too.. my understand is that as long as you aren't changing the coin with fraudulent intent (IE to pass it off as a higher value coin, or to say split a coin and pass it off as two) it's not a problem.

I've even seen machines that squish pennies in to charms with say a picture of the Alamo on it at federal parks.

True, but it's hard to get past: alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes or lightens. I've seen those penny squishing machines at the zoo too, but I think technically it is illegal according to the law. Emh114, if what you're doing is worth having coins minted, I think you might as well have them pierce the hole at the same time it is blanked.

Can't mangle it and spend it. It's yours, you can do what you want, as long as you don't spend it or make a penny into a quarter, as was stated. People have been making Jewelry from coins as long as there have been coins. You can sell it, but not with the intent of it going back to circulation.

I got a 25# rice sack 3/4 full of pre73 pure copper pennies. I wonder what it's worth. Can't pick it up.

Just because "people have been making Jewelry from coins as long as there have been coins." make it legal. On a small scale the government wouldn't be bothered. Do it on a large scale and see what happens.

No way that it's illegal. Destroy your money, it's profit for the Mint. Just like the collectable-quarter scheme, where the US Mint has made something like $4.6 billion. Like it's already been said here, "defacing" a coin is just turning it into another coin of higher value.

The Liberty Is Sitting in the cut I want to make.

the coins I am milling out are not in circulation, and or still able to buy stuff with, they are collectible items any more. not quarters,dimes,nickles,pennies... they are silver coins....... here is the cut by it self

You might be an inch shorter now. No more machine lifting for me. I bought a hoist. Don't have enough good disks left in my back to risk a heavy lift.

LOL, now that brought a smile to my face. Maybe I'll get out the Tarbell Course too, just to be complete.

Your project should be fascinating and fun, Sebashtion. Best wishes to you!
