    Default spindle encoder for lathe

    hi all
    i want to make lathe as cnc conversion
    i see a lots of thing about encoder or about spindle encoder for rpm and thread cut
    but i dont know what is the best thing
    my question is... what is the spindle encoder i should to use for that
    something good .cheap and easy to setup

    It all depends on which software and motion control vendor you are going to use. Some software (Mach3) only uses/reads one signal per revolution so all you need is a disk with one slot while others will read many signals/pulses per revolution.

    If you want a motor 'geared' off of an encoder as the way as it is done on professional systems.
    You need a Galil based, Linux, or dynomotion system.

    Yes it would. But, as I said, it depends on which software and motion controller you choose. Not all hardware and/or software combinations can utilize the information.
