I have gotten to the point where conversational programming has reached its limits and my files are to big for a floppy. I have a RH19 with Centurion 7 control. I now run BobCAD 22 with the Predator editor with DNC. I bought a parralel cable, stuck it in each RS232 connection and it dont work. OK, so I'm an idiot, do I need to have a special cable to move pin 1 to the opposite side? After reading all these posts, it may be too slow for me anyway. Can I just plug a parallel ZIP drive into the port? Can it be that easy? Ebay has them for $10. As for the ethernet, is it as simple as plugging in a new PCI card? I have read the posts and really dont have that clarification. Being DOS, there is no plug and play, so whats involved? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| Jax, Be very careful you might damage the RS232 Port, is the Zip drive you have a serial or parallel interface? Most Zip drives are parallel interface, and will NOT work with a RS232 Serial Port. Why dont you run a serial cable from your computer to the Centurion? The RS232 Port on the Centurion will require a Null Adapter in order to interface to a computer with a serial port. See the attached Diagram for wiring instructions. The are several other solutions however the Centurion will need the right upgrade parts in order to connect a Zip Drive or a solid state memory card. The Centurion has a single board computer in it, you would have to open the chassis and check to see if the model you have has a pci slot. | Don't be deceived by the 25-pin socket on the Centurion control. It is actually wired for RS232 and utilizes a COM port on the motherboard (ref: DB9). "Parallel" doesn't apply. Given your inexperience in computer hardware you really should contact Milltronics for optional add-on(s) and/or upgrades. In the meantime you should get a proper cable and run it from the COM port on your computer to the 25-pin socket on the Centurion. With proper configuration you can send larger (than 1.4meg) to your Centurion using BobCad. |
