Guys, How do I adjust the backlash compensation of my Centurion VI? When I switch directions with the handwheel, the indicator needle jumps .0015". TIA.

| Utilities> Parameters> Setup> Level> Validation code= Proto3> Level=3> Axis> scroll down till you can edit the Backlash> Edit> then select axis to edit. Before you arbitrarily make that change, check the backlash in several places on the screw. I have found if an axis jumps on reversal, the backlash may be set to high for no load indicator readings. While cutting, it can be quite different. I have also found that there are some anomalies with the handwheel resolution verses the table motion with small moves(one detent) of the handwheel. Possibly binary math wherein one pulse change does nothing but the next makes up for it. Either that or the detents do not line up as well as one would expect with the actual pulses. Doing a circle, diamond, square, test program can clarify which axis has excess backlash or too much backlash compensation. DC

| Wow! DC, thanks for the information. I had not considered the load on the table. How do I (or who do I call to) calibrate the machine? There is a method that has a Renishaw probe that measures the axis variation of a interpolated circle. I'd rather do that. How much would that cost? Thanks again.

| There are plenty out there. CNC Calibration The machines are +/- .0004 as new repeatability. The best you can do is re-map the screws to update the ballscrew compensation for wear. Cost? very subjective to the mercy of the provider. ![]() DC
