Default VM16 minimum height with spindle lowered?

    Hello -

I'm in the process of acquiring a VM16, and I'm planning on putting it in my heated garage.

It's barely going to fit in the door width wise, so it's going to be tricky to get in place.

The height is the problem - according to the spec page, it needs 114" of clear height to operate. That's no problem inside the garage. Moving through the door is another story.

Does anyone know how "short" the machine can become when the spindle is lowered all the way to a block on the table?

From the look of things, the main item sticking up when the spindle is all the way down is the Z servo itself. Has anyone ever removed this to lower the height of the machine for moving?

    Thanks for any info,

    Erik

I had to remove the Z servo motor to get the machine thru the door of my shop. Not that difficult to remove.

Excellent, thanks. How tall is your door?

My Height clearance is 89". I also had to bring the machine into the shop without the leveling feet attached.

I forgot to reply back to this... I got the machine inside by removing the leveling feet, dismounting the Z servo, and using a newly purchased set of 3 machine skates. It went in with a couple inches of clearance, and is now set up and running fine.

Which VM16 variant? Pics? I'm rolling around the idea of a second machine and I'm keeping an eye on the VM16's

My 1996 vm16a made it in my 8ft garage door with a few inches to spare. I would have to recheck how tall the door is when I get back to my state. Its around 80 if I recall.

I looked back at my post of moving mine. I got it through an 83 inch doorway with room to spare and had measured the height at about 77ish with the head all the way down and the spindle motorcover removed
