| help with hsm on our RH19 I'm looking for help on High Speed End Milling of Hardened D2 Tool Steel. I'm new to milling hardened steel. Tool Selection I figure should be solid carbide with TiAIN coating or am I wrong on this? Also any input on rpm and feedrate would be very helpful. I attached an image of the part I want to machine. There is .025-.030 in stock that needs to remove from the od. Approx 8.500 inches in Diameter and .750 thick. Thanks for any help on this |

| What are your surface finish requirments? What Rc is the part? If you can use inserted tooling I would look at Millstar or Greenleaf. Greenleaf makes a ceramic insert that would work well. If solid carbide is what you have in mind Hanita makes some very good endmills for machining hardend materials. Speed and feed will depend on hardness. Good solid clamping and good toolholders will be a must! |
