    x-axis drive howl

I have been fighting with a loud howl coming from the x-axis drive motor since this machine was new. It sometimes stays away until i use the x-axis lots then it gets noisy. Other times it starts when i bump the x-axis in HDW mode. I have called in many times and have adjusted the gain for the drive a few times. It goes away but always ends up coming back. Anyone else ever have this? The howl is actually fairly loud and can be heard thoughout the entire shop. The reason i ask is warranty is up in a month. Oh ya even when the axis is not moving it will sometimes howl.

    Its a RH33

Get your Dealer's service people find and solve the problem, that is what the warranty is intended to do.

You could have a bad motor, a bad drive, bad ballscrew/bearings, or alignment problems.
Make them (your Dealer's service people) fix it.

    RH33 x axis noise

I agree with ZZZZ, get the dealer out there, if the drive paramerters PN100 and 109 have been "tweeked" it is most likly a loose thrust nut or sloppy gibs or some other mechanical issue. Have them give you an extended warranty coverage (in writting)on ths issue unlil it is fixed.

Only problem is i'm 7 hour drive from the closest dealer. They want we to check a bunch of stuff myself. Being our first NC mill its a little intimidating. Its not like i can get someone here easily. I need to check drawbar tension as well as i have some major tool sticking issues. There isn't a tool in town, but Milltronics will gladly rent us one?? How nice. Anyways is there a setting without going to far on the pn100 and 109 i can try to rule out a resonance problem? I got the gibs instructions but there pretty vauge. the table is 7'x3' how am i supposed to feel light tension?? Anyways all i need is to be shown once but i guess I'm left in the cold. Theres industrial service centers in town, but i know the guys. They are just gonna get written instructions and wing it, as they have never worked on this kind of equipment.

Next week i'll try there suggestions first then put up a bit of a fight i guess to get this serviced. Machine has 5-600 hours on it RH33 (awesome pc of equipment otherwise though)
