I recently purchased a Milltronics Partner 1 mill. I finally got it up and running. I tried to interpolate a hole and it came out as an elipse. One way it was in tolerance and another measurement was out of tolerance by .01. Is there a way to tighten up gibs on this machine? I know that it has box ways on precision rails and didn't know if there was a way to take play out of the axis. Can anyone help with this question? Thanks, Chizel |

| The partner 1 is a linear rail machine, it does not have gibs. 0.01" should be easy to find, it almost sounds like you have bad thrust bearings or the thrust nut is loose. Do a simple push/pull test on the X and Y axis with a test indicator to determine which axis has the slop. Check the bearings in that axis. If the machine was never greased the linear rails could be worn or missing bearings. Start with checking the table flatness, typically the table will drop one side if a bearing block is damaged. |

| You may also experience oval holes if the following error isn't the same for all axis. If the error is at the quadrant points, backlash is usually the problem as franchcnc suggests. If the error is at the 45 degree points, the problem is usually a following error issue. Check the following error by going to Display, Error. Run each axis back and forth at 100 ipm, the error should be .050 for each. Adjust the gain pot on the drive card to achieve the .050 and then try the circle again. I have seen dull cutters or too much clamping pressure also give you ovals. Let us know what you find. |
