    rolled form threads with heli-coil

What's everyone's opinion on using rolled form threads for a heli-coil?

I always whenever possible will roll tap any and all blind holes. (I also consider a hole, through, but not tapped through blind.) Regardless of heli-coils or "standard" threads. And if they are through holes and the thread is all the way through then I will cut them.
Roll taps break less, run faster, leave no chips or burrs in the hole, and as an added bonus produce a stronger thread due to work hardening.
Obviously at a point, diametrally, rolling the thread is less than feasable due to tooling expense and available horsepower.........

If they make roll form taps for helicoils, then they must work. Kind of reverse thinking, I guess , but I can't think of any other use for a helicoil tap than for creating thread forms for helicoil inserts.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

I don't work for a tap and die company.........But I hear more horror stories from guys using cut taps on everything they do. Roll taps are really a blessing. If I had a penny for every hole I had to "blow the chips out of" as a newbie pee-on in the trade I would be retired. I have also used them in plastic, PVC to be specific, it took some experimenting to get the right minor dia and the right H# tap but it sure beat using a 6-32 spiral cut tap which may be the weakest tap size in history..and my operator picking chips with tweazers for 25,000 holes!
