How to use a Lathe
The drag on the assembly must be minimal. Cutting can only be done in one direction to prevent gouging as spring and backlash is bound to exist. I have found it neccesary to start my feed, then bring the cutter into the material and then back out before power feed is dropped out or a gouge will result. With a little practice, you can make it work, but it can be a real pain if the attachment is not bind free, compounded by flex and slop from the clamp or rod on light duty lathes.
