I just recently purchased a Sieg Super X3 CNC mill from here: http://www.syilamerica.com/product_h4.asp I'm a newbie and need help with CNC machining, Mach3 software etc. I think a hobby CNC machinist group in San Diego would be great also. I have time in the PM and weekends. Regards, Dan |

| Hi Dan, I'm a newbie too but would be interested in getting together to share ideas and experiences. I am building a jgro router and have successfully cut some parts with Mach3. I'd be happy to help if I can. I was hoping there would be a hobby group in San Diego too but haven't found one yet. I am located in Point Loma. I'll send you a PM with my contact info in case you are interested. Mike |

Hi Halfnutz, Yes, I'm serious about starting a local hobby machinist group. I think this web service would be perfect to start it: http://www.meetup.com Orange County to San Diego is a little bit of a drive. Regards, Dan |

Yes it is a bit of a drive, but I do the drive allmost everyday for work, and my daughter lives there as well, so sometimes I am in S.D. everyday for weeks on end.

| Hi Halfnutz, Sounds great. Come on down and lets get to know each other. Our little group is growing and I'm having a lot of fun with my Syilamerica cnc mill. I'm a total newbie, but have learned a lot in the few short weeks since my mill purchase. Regards, Dan |

| Hi Halfnutz, So far, we have met at my house and have been playing around with my new Syil X3 CNC mill. Here is my Syil thread: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28560 Mike and I, have pretty much finalized the Meetup.com idea and will go forward with starting a group using that service. Mike is out of town this weekend, but once he gets back in, we will begin the group formally. This group will be very casual with nothing required from the members other than to help cover the yearly cost of using Meetup.com's service fees etc. I would like to make it clear that members are not required to attend meetings if they don't want to. All I'm after is to meet people, newbies and experts alike, who are in the San Diego area that are into manual and CNC hobby machine tools etc. Networking, sharing ideas, making new friends and even selling of products (If you make a cool gizmo and want to try and sell it - bring it on!) are all welcome and to be encouraged. Rik and I live in the Santee area and Mike lives in Point Loma. Meetup.com's service is pretty cool, as each member can post a short bio of them selves and where they live etc. Regards, Dan |
