Looking to move back to Michigan

Hello. I moved from Michigan to the Chicago area quite a while back. I like my job enough to stay, but I'm a bit disappointed with my shops inability to actually teach. I think they just want me to be an operator until I get fed up and quit. Most of the guys I work with have been operating for a decade, and we have one set up guy, one leadman and one engineer. I'm feeling like I'm being pigeonholed into a dead end position.

I work on Star swiss CNC lathes. I know how to set the barfeeders, collets, and some of the basics regarding setting up the machines. I have used a presetter a couples. My scrap rate is very low, I make my offsets independently, and work alone on my shift. I run 4 machines per 10 hour shift, and have no problem working 6 days a week. 7 days a week would be fine, but my company doesn't want to pay sunday rates.

I started in the CNC trade a year ago. Before that, I worked in a fabrication shop doing bending, some tool room stuff, a good mix of stuff really. I love making things, that's why I got into manufacturing. I have samples of work I did in trade school. Built some cool stuff that really impressed the hell out of my shop class teacher, and was used as a display piece for my vocational school.

Anyways, I really want to learn more. Chicago is nice, but I really miss my home state, and would rather buy a house there and live close to my family again. I have no one here, so I think it's time to go back since the money isn't worth staying. My family is in the metro Detroit region, but I wouldn't mind being a couple hours away either. If anyone is looking to train, and needs a hard working, motivated worker who loves manufacturing, the machining trade and want to actually learn, feel free to get in touch. Have a great day, and god bless America.
