Volts,

I'm in Bangor, currently acquiring the stuff to build a 4 axis assembly machine for my shop. I have very little idea of what will work with what, so probably most of what I'm acquiring will wind up back on ebay.

regards,

jim

compufobia,

I don't normally do outside machining because I'm generally too busy working on my own stuff. But I'd take a look at it for you if it's just a part or two that can be done with a bridgeport or lathe.

regards,

jimc

What kind of machine are you building (mill /router?). Last spring I built a three axis router on a low budget. Had so much fun, I'm gathering the stuff to build a bigger better one. I'm located in the midcoast area.

I used turbocnc with the Xylotex driver on my first machine, but plan to switch to Mach3 and possibly servos on the next machine.

Around $500 for everything.

$125 xylotex driver board
approx. $100 steppers on ebay
$30 power supply ebay
free old computer
used drill rod with bronze bushings on y and z axis ($50)
pipe and machined rollers on x axis (salvaged)
Alum. for frame (auction ???)
router ($175)
Misc hardware (acme rod, alum...)
working area is about 24" x 32"

attached a pic before I had the router

Not sure of the budget for the next one, but aready have THK linear rails. Hope to have a working area of 5' x 10'. I'm glad I built the small one first. Learned a lot about what not to do.

Got on this site not too long ago mainly to do some research for a few projects in the barn however found this old thread about folks in Maine.

I'm located on rte 2 North of Old Town. I know the guy thats taken on the machining duties at UMO however was interested in looking beyond that resource as he's a busy busy guy.

Interested in seeing what sort of replys I get to this.
