Phoenix and I are going to try to make it out there today. We look forward to seeing any of you who make it. Anyone have any suggestions for a good place to eat out there? Maybe Railhead BBQ?

When is the next meeting?
Tom
Farmer's Branch, eh?
Lived in Carrollton for 35 years.
Sister lives in FB.
PM me and we can maybe setup a meet.
I think we should take a vote between Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd, then vote on area, then vote on venues. I'm personally fine with either date, so if someone has an objection say so now or we'll just schedule for Saturday.
Saturday the 22 is fine with me.
I'm in Plano, TX. So, doesn't matter to me where we meet at.
I'm in the process of finding a house with a garage for my shop. Come end of October, I plan to be in full swing cutting parts etc. I'm sharing this because I may be looking for some help in manufacturing some parts.
I enjoy the last meet up to talk shop. Looking forward to it again.
I did the work shop event and got a few things out of it. I think doing that is very beneficial to the group. I think I'd be up for teaching an entry call on Alibre CAD/CAM. I can get entry Alibre CAD/CAM CD's to hand out (80% sure). I'm no pro at it yet, but I've learned a few techniques along the way.
Hi guy's I live in the mid cities and am up for whatever & whenever. kind of got away from it but hopefully back on track. good to see some activity around town. looking forward to it
tks gary
Keep it up North, Plano would be nice............
agree with that.. Plano
its coming up on Saturday the 22 and there's response in interest but no places have been mentioned.
There is a place called:
Big Easy
www.bigeasyplano.com
1915 N Central Expy # 200
Plano, TX 75075-6984
(972) 424-5261
I mention this place because they have a back eating area. It's awesome Cajun food and the price is fairly cheap.
Anyone else suggesting a place to meet?
Say we meet about 1pm?
Or do we want to do early and meet for breakfast?
osphoto .....
I'm onboard for Bigeasy.
Think, I would prefer lunch time over breakfast.
But I'm "easy" if everyone else wants to do different.
That's two people so far that are planning to make this trip. Any more going to make it out?
I'll be there at 12:30 in my HASS hat.
I'll try and come
Oh man, I stopped getting email notifications from this thread and totally forgot to keep checking on it for the last week. Sorry Phoenix and I didn't make it guys.
Man I'm down in the Austin area but would sure like to meet some of the old farm guys that I see are in the Dallas area. Looks like it might have been tonight.
I hope to make the next group meet, it sure would be worth the drive to talk with some of you pro's!!! and newb's too!!!
sorry i didn't make it, it would be easier for me if it was closer to Dallas next time. my fault for not speaking up sooner. let us know how it went.
There was only two that showed up.
It was good to talk shop and eat awesome Cajun food! I picked up a few websites to look over, thanks Charlie!
With all the people that are interested in meeting up and come from various places, its rather difficult to pick a good spot for all of us. I'm good for a drive though.
Where shall we have the next meeting? Lets keep this going, it keeps us motivated to keep up on our projects!
I'd like to get a bigger group together because I'd like to talk about a group of us going to a shop that does all the things we are interested in. And this group would get to eat some home made BBQ just for showing up! Not sure about the rest of you, but, BBQ is worth a road trip specially when we get to talk shop and see live machines in action!
Since this last meeting was in Plano, maybe we can meet in Dallas for the next meeting? I like the week days but I'm good for any days.
Some one toss out a suggestion!
Original Sonny Bryan's on Inwood is probably the best BBQ I've ever had in Dallas, but they don't really have seating for groups. Texas Monthly recommended Baker's Ribs which has a bunch of locations all over http://www.bakersribs.com/Locations.html and these guys have given a few 4 star ratings out in the Metroplex http://fcg-bbq.blogspot.com/search/label/****
Anyone else feel like we need a mailinglist? I haven't been receiving any notifications when the thread is bumped.
I haven't been to any of the meetings yet but if any one would like they can come check out the garage shop im building.
I recently purchased a 5000# cnc milling machine probably from the 80's. Im in the proses of retrofitting it. It has a 40 taper spindle with a power draw bar, box ways, 31"x17" travel, flood and mist coolant.... So far the table is running under mach3 control with 1100oz/in steppers and it rapids reliably at about 190in/min.
I don't want to talk about how i got it into my garage.
I also recently purchased a 14" south bend lathe from the 70's. Its all manual, I had considered retrofitting it but im starting to think a newer large Asian lathe would be a better starting point. its biggest problem is that the dovetail on the cross slide is unevenly worn. I may get adventuresome and attempt re machining the dovetail on my mill, but that is well out of my comfort zone.
Also in my garage a taig cnc mill, Sherline lathe, and round column mill. I may be selling these in the near future.
You can probably tell i have very little practical experience machining, but im addicted.
btw, i live in farmers branch.
