    MadMech65,

Vector Magic is also very popular, checkout:

Imho, Corel is much much easier to learn and use than AI. It produces nice dxf files.

    Jalessi,

I looked at Vector Magic and it seemed like a pretty straight forward editor, but was wondering if it will allow me to draw using a Wacom drawing pad. One plus for sure is that Vector is half the price of Corel.

    Inov8r,

Thanks for the heads up, I'm leaning towards Corel atm.

    Alan,

Originally you asked for a program to convert images to dxf, not a drawing program. That is why I suggested Vector Magic.

There are several ways get where you want to go.

After the vector conversion you can add or modify details with a CAD program not a drawing program.
