Talking Restore-Perkins electric Aluminum Machine Punch

Hey everyone just purchased a surplus punch. I am going to give it some TLC and rebuild it back into working order! I've never used a punch like this, so it will be educational and i hope to learn a lot. Feel free to post any educational video links, manuals, or just give me some guidance.

    Talking visual inspection.

I was able to give it a closer inspection once i got it moved to my warehouse. It appears to be in good condition for the most part. Thankfully its 110V single phase. I need to put a new 3 prong plug adapter on the end of it. Currently it has a twist lock plug which i do not have freely available in my shop. Hopefully the clutch is still in good condition. Once i get a new plug i will turn it on and hope for the best. Id like to disengage the clutch and make sure it rotates freely by hand through its entire cycle. This way i don't turn it on and potentially break/bend/ruin the machine. It closely resembles a crank shaft, with a connecting rod. Instead of a piston attached to the connecting rod, there is a large punch holder. Very much like an upside down single cylinder engine.

The stand has seen better days, closer inspection revealed 2 out of the 4 feet that connect the legs to the base are cracked off. The stand appears to be cast iron. The only thing connecting the stand to the base is 4 large bolts. I don't know if ill be able to weld the feet to the legs again. It might be better off with a new stand all together.

It seems like the previous owner made a lot of custom holder, brackets, etc for the machine. All the original parts appear to be in tact though and in good visual condition.

I have yet to pull the punch out to see what diameter holder it has, but when i do i'd like to find a punch and die set for it on ebay.

Roper Whitney Punch and Die Set

I removed the cover from the punch and it rotates by hand. when the foot pedal is pressed it engages the drive and makes one rotation by hand, then slips back to free wheeling like it is suppose too. Looks like i got lucky and its mechanically sound so far. I removed the punch from the machine and it appears to be a "Roper Whitney .313" I believe somewhere on the punch it should say the tonnage it is rated up to. I think it is currently covered up by grease, and the flywheel. I will inspect tomorrow. Shot off an email to Roper and whitney to ask what style this punch is. Pics attached. I wouldn't mind picking up a set off ebay.

Roper Whitney - Quality Sheet Metal Fabrication Equipment

I found out they use Style #8 punch and dies. Info attached!

It seemed that they didn't use a proper die, instead they must have drilled and reamed a hole in what appeared to be a 1 or 1.5" steel plate. (must have used it for production, since they die is not interchangeable and it only came with one punch).

I would really like to get the machine on a new stand. The other stands feet are cracked off at the leg and i don't want to deal with welding them back together (welder is not at current location, and doesn't have the rated power for it).

    More to come.

Sherwin Williams industrial Safety Red. Double coat.

It will be getting a new stand, no sense in painting the old one.

2 out of 4 of the feet on the legs are broken off. It's seen better days. Looking for a stand for it. It measures 12" x 24". any ideas? Unsure of its weight also.. I was thinking maybe something like a hydraulic lift table.

Hydraulic Lift Table - 500 Lb. Capacity

Then i can wheel it around, and also raise the bed height if needed. Just a thought.

    H5741 Heavy-Duty Workbench System-Small

This bench looks sturdy, but no wheels!!

Previous owner installed a table top over the original table top. This machine does have a die after all, and not just a drilled hole.
