moment of inertia=3.14*diameter^4/64 for a solid round
enter the point load as how much weight will be on it.

or are you looking for just the deflection of the rod with no load?
then you need case 23
set q to the weight per inch=volume*density=3.14*d^2/4*.283

wow it took me a sec to figure out all the stuff but wow that made it easy now my next question what is an acceptable amount of deflection or should i aim for zero?

4. thats up to you. Whatever you can tolerate will be your limit. It all depends on what you are building and what you are making.
