Newbie question - need help desperately

    Hi guys,
This may be in the wrong place - admin please relocate as you see fit.

I'll fill you in on the history of this problem first. I'm a 3d modelling engineer who creates concepts for architects. I specialize in 3D studio max 8 but I also know some Rhinoceros. Why all this blurb? Well I was given a task to create a 3D model to be cut from a piece of high density structural foam. This is to be done in a CNC milling machine in Australia. Having worked on the models appearance and structure and nearing the end of my time allowance - I found out that CNC milling machines require .stl files made from NURBS models and that polygonal objects cant work. This poses a big problem. I dont have time to remodel in NURBS and I have to have this thing finished in about a week.

Does anyone know how a polygonal model can be converted into a NURBS model suitable for a CNC milling machine?

    Thanks in advance guys.

an .stl file IS a polygon model. .stl's are just made up of triangle polygons, like a .3ds file. You should be able to go from MAX to Rhino and export the .stl from Rhino. No need to use nurbs.

How big is it. Maybe you should consider using a different CNC vendor. Like ME.
