    Speed Reduction 30:1 Recycle/Donor Source?

Suggestions sought as to what common sources might yield a light weight (below 10 pounds) speed reducer of 30:1 or more?
Input speed will be about 2000 RPM's.
Application is for servo motor to drive reduction.
    Thanks, WT

I don't have an answer to the question, but I have a suggestion - build it from timing pulleys and a belt. It would fit where you want it, be backlash free and it could be far less than a decent, 'near zero' backlash speed reducer. Probably more efficient, too.

If there's a Princess Auto in your area, you could check there..
Early this fall I picked up a 100:1 reducer [steel at ~20 lbs] rated for 1 hp max, in the 'wierd stuff' bin for $9.99 [CDN yet]..
My application was for a power drive for a grain bin lifter, used it with a reducer mounted spool and a 1/2 hp electric... lifted 3 ton bins ok, all I needed was maybe 4 foot lift..

    enjoy

Thanks for the tip Vladdy. I'll take 3 at that price.
My local P.A. has none. Maybe all the GOOD "Weird Stuff" is not sent to Ontario stores. :frown:
Perhaps there will be other suggestions or I can go the route Scott suggested.
    Thanks both.

Actually you should see that kind of stuff first, I think PA headquarters is closer to you than me...??

That kind of stuff is erratic at best, I assume you've checked Ebay??

I ? might? have a steel reducer in the garage, probably [ as memory serves] someplace between 50 and 100 reduction, was maybe 12"x12"x6" or so..

I don't need it, will look in the shop later on this afternoon..

Could you provide the 7 diget stock code number for the 100:1 surplus reducer from your archives?
Princess Auto has offered to attempt to locate some for me if I provide the number.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks, WT

What you have to watch for in servo applications is if it is worm gear reducer there may be backlash, I prefer planetary reducers like Bayside, the more common eBay source.
