Simple cheap mill
I need a cheap mill to make parts for some projects (including a hexapod ), There is NO thing as a cheap mill in Sweden. So I was thinking about buying 2 coordinate tables and mount them like in the attached picture. You would have to lock or remove the vertical table X axis.
Think this would work?
Sure it would work...and why should you lock any tables ? Experiment with all...
I do not believe that there are no "cheap" mills in Sweden
If I should decide between a "real" minimill and 2 x-tables+WORK, I would deffinitely buy mill ! Here (in FINLAND ) those two crosstables would cost about half of the minimill (because they must be rather good..).
Then you have to attach the millhead etc. etc.
I wouldn't do that by myself. Just BUY THE MILL...:-)
Yeah i have decided to buy a mill instead
The only one resonably priced i have found that seem suitable for cnc is Optimum BF-20 Vario.
I have heard that there is problems with the electronics on them, but i guess you just could build/buy a better dc controller and replace it (and perhaps the motor).
I really like the envelope:
X-axis travel 280 mm
Y-axis travel 175 mm
Z-axis travel 280 mm
Don't worry about electronics on these machines
Electrically these are simple "analog" machines so it's simple to modify them too (and make them better ).
In fact, the most hard part in making lathe/mill/whatever is the mechanics (been constructing mini3D-drill/mill for 3 years now...).
Electronics...the last and the easiest to employ.
I heard the electronic problems is fixed now anyway
I think the mechanics seem pretty good on that machine... I'll get it next week so then i'll know ;P
