Does anyone have a good source for gears and belts?
Im looking into building belt reduction units.
Are there any opinions on advantages or disadvantages for Ratios?
Thanks

Reduction increases the torque by the ratio of reduction, and the motor to load inertia ratio is reduced by the square of the reduction.

Gates has a great tech section on their website. Look under power transmission, belt drives.

Does anyone have any opinion on ratios?
I have seen some with 3:1 and 5:1, is there an advantage of having one over the other?
My steppers will either be 740oz or 960oz.

The ideal ratio needs to take into account the motors, drives, power supply, mass of the machine, desired resolution, and desired performance. All of these are used in calculating the best gear ratio for a given machine.
