    Timing Belt and pulley sizes

    Hello,

I've just finished my 1st machine and am well into designing my #2. I'm not keen on having hi-speed acme rods/ballscrews shipped here in my neck of the woods home so I'm designing a belt-driven set-up ala buildyourcnc's. It will be made from MDF or 13ply Marine plywood that's available 400miles away. Y gantry weighs from 15-20kgs (33-45 lbs). Two Belts will be used in either side of the gantry and another for the Y. I will scrounge for used ballscrew for the Z axis.

    here are some questions:

Machine size is 28" X 54", cutting area approx 20" x 44". Will a T5 10mm(3/8") wide belt enough for the X axis? I have no prior experience with these so I have no idea how they might hold up under tension.

My choice of 10T 5mm pitch pulley has a hub width of 16 mm. Will the 10mm wide belt be useable for this? Wont the belt "dance" in such a not too tight space?

OR can you suggest some other belt size suitable for my router?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Jordan
