    Question Aluminum vs PSI

Hey Guys, thanks for the help.

A little background. At a college, I'm an officer in an Engineering Technologies group. We're planning on creating a submarine-like device to be used in a lake.

I was hoping to make this "submarine" out of aluminum plates/sheets. Would this be a good idea? If not, what metal would you prefer? This device will be at a minimum of 10 ft. deep in water and 30 ft. maximum. We are unsure of the dimensions at this tie, but probably 4'x6"x6".

If you have a good engineering and good welder and BIG BUDGET go with aluminum,

Without knowing the full scope of your project. Possible look at an acrylic hull, 6"dia or 6"sq tubes are not that uncommon.

6 inch (or larger) PVC pipe would work fine also. More than strong enough, and cheap.

I had to edit my post, my reading comprehension leaves something to be desired.

And just cause I'm curious, which method do you prefer? Scoring the acrylic and breaking or using a circular saw?

Mcarter, Scoring never works for me, especially with at tube. I would suggest first a miter saw (diablo blade), or a metal band saw blade. I am sure others on this site have better experience on what to use then I.

Jim, Your idea is totally legit also, functional and elegant. I have a problem placing to much emphasis on the "Coolness" factor $$ .
