mazak nexus 200 lathe - spindle problem - matrix control

This is on a Matrix control

Normally when the machine is in manual mode, you're allowed to click the up and down button, and run the spindle either forward or reverse.

For some reason the spindle start and stop buttons work, but the up and down buttons don't. So I can't get the spindle to run while in manual operation mode. But it all runs fine when in automatic.

Anyone got any thoughts on what the problem could be...could it be a circuit in the back of the machine? It's been like this the last 2 times i've turned on the machine, and it just happened outta nowhere.

    Thanks for the help.

When it's done it to me, it's usually because I forgot to close the chuck.... Spindle on mine won't turn unless you're clamped on the workpiece.

It's just seemed to happen out of no where. We don't have the lock on our door so the machine can run without the door shut.

I'm not sure whats going on with it. We can still run parts, it's just the thing wont spin, without running a part.

Could be that your board switches are bad. We have had a very simular problem, spindle speed increase would work, decrease would not. We had to replace the entire control circuit board to fix.

Thats what I was afraid it would be. We previously lost use of the "input" button, and had to switch the board out.

Don't ya just love the fact you can't change out individual buttons. The overlay begins to get worn and lets coolant and dirt into the board and bingo! You get to order a new board and overlay.
