I need help with a Mazak VQC-20/50B.
I'm a newbie and need help with a Freqrol FR-SX /AC spindle controller.
The machine was moved to a new location in the plant and now I get a "phase loss" fault. Voltage is good coming in and out but i can't get rid of the fault. Any ideas?

Are you sure you got the phases in the proper sequence when re-attaching the lines to the machine? Maybe R-S-T are now different such as R-T-S. Try swapping phases such as the T and S phase to see if that works. When you checked power did you check phase to phase and phase to ground?

Regards,

Chippy

Mazak Trouble

chippy,
I checked the voltage phase to phase it is 477 vac between phases.
Phase voltage to ground is 278,272 and 285 respectively.
I changed the phasing in to as many combinations as there are and I still can't get rid of the phase loss fault.
I'm scratching my head on this one. Can you think of anything else I could try?

Did you check the voltages right at the spindle input itself? Try there also to see that you have the phases at the spindle too.

Chippy

Hey Chippy,
I checked for voltage at the spindle. I'm not getting any voltage on the output side of the controller. Do I have to get rid of the fault before I get voltage? When I try to reset the fault it comes right back and never allows voltage out. Any thoughts?

Paul,

No you wouldn't get anything on the output when the spindle is in alarm state.

What were the input voltages to the spindle. Or were the voltages that you stated below the voltages on the input to the spindle. Typcally the input voltages to the spindle are 220V AC. Not 440~480V AC. That might be the voltage for the whole machine, but usually stepped down to 220V AC.

Regards,

Chippy
