Bought a Ecoca EL6110E lathe with Mitsubishi Meldas 520l controlls. The machine were marked with a machine sign saying that the input voltage should be 380v 3ph, just like we have where I live. So far so good. Got a buddy thats an electrican (or what its called) that hooked up the machine for me, just like I would do it my self. Turned on the machine and the smoke just came blowing out of the machines controlls. The machine should have had 220v 3ph not 380v, the machine sign were wrong. It opend the spindeldrive and the two servocontrollers for the x and the z axix. and found one blown capacitor in each, have orderd these new and hope im getting them today. Anybody been there done that???? Hope this is all this is wrong with the electric in the machine. Any advise would been greatly appretiated. I have not paied for the machine yet........ What to do??? |

..Step away from the machine. ![]() If this is a new machine, then it is up to the seller to make sure it is marked correctly. If second hand, then it is a bit up in the air as to who is responsible, whether it is purchased as-is, if you have the option, I would wait to see it run before you pay. Al.

220V/380V just means each phase carries 220V, but measured from phase to phase it's 380V so your buddy connected it right. Something else is wrong with the machine. Newer machines might also be marked 240/400V but the same idea applies. As for the machine, if you had permission to try it before paying you should be ok. edit-- Having said this a lot of Japanese machines used a step down transformer, my Mori with Meldas 50 is actually 3x200V so maybe you should re-check the specs on the machine. |

| In Norway we have 2 diferent types of 3phase current, 220v and 380v. And if you conect the machines wrong you could be F#¤&%, if it were a 380v machine and conected to 220v if would be fine because it just wouldent work properly. The machine are secondhand and were probably deliverd new with a transformer that lowerd the current to 220v Im the 3. owner of the machine, and my guess are the 2. owner didnt need the transformer so they never even had it. But theyve run it on 220v, and I personally mean that the seller is responible for the error when selling a machine thats inncorectly "marked" on the machine plate sign. I have not talked to the seller yet, because im waiting for the capacitors, so I could try to fix it my self. But if that dont work, I need to know that the seller is responsible. Im just starting my own buisness, and cant afford to loose this amount of money in tha start phase of my buisness. The servo and spindle controllers are Mitsubishi MDS type. Hope the capacitors does the trick..... |
