| I believe the original are re-chargeable type, I have seen some hooked up that are cordless phone type used. And yes you have to change them with the power on, otherwise all the parameters are lost. Al.

The previous poster is correct. The backup batteries must only be replaced with the power on. And yes, the ones I am familiar with are the ones that look like old cordless phone batteries. You want it to hold about 3.6 vdc. This battery not only keeps the params, etc., but also helps the encoders keep position. I just reinstalled a repaired T-1 yesterday...... |

| You need 3 (not 4) 1,2v rechargeable AA lithium batteries, solder them together as a pack and reconnect the original plug, you should now have a minimum of 3,6v across the pins. Stow them away in the space provided at the top of the NC rack. DO NOT turn off the nc or you will lose the memory. |

As a heads up for T1 users, I have come across a few T1's where the Mazak parts manual gives the wrong part number for the Z axis resolver, If you order from the manual part number because the original has been obscured or rubbed off, you will get the wrong resolution, there is no way to scale the resolver resolution on the T1, and the X & Z are not interchangeable as they are different resolution. IIRC the manual shows a 03 and it should be a 05. Al.
