Renishaw Mazak Bore touch off

We have a Mazak Nexus 510c with a mazatrol 640 control and a Renishaw UMB40 probe. I need to know how to touch off and zero on a bore in automatic mode. We have the manuals and we even did it once in the past but nobody can remember how we did it.

Are you doing this in Mazatrol or EIA ??? Mazatrol is simple by using Touch Sensor cycle and follow the prompts. In EIA, you use macros that should've been installed on the machine. Do you have the Inspection Plus programming book for Mazak?

Inspection Plus is the software Renishaw has written for a number of macro call cycles like measure bore, find edge, 4th axis adjust, web, slot, boss, etc, etc. This is a probing G-code cycle book that they've written to accommodate just about every machine builder out there (the common or "popular" ones). It's an option for most machine makes, Mazak included. You may be set up for Mazatrol only (standard probe package). But if you're not sure, you can check by looking into the program file and see if you have a number of probe macros in the 9000 range.

Anyway, for Mazatrol bore probe.... Are you wanting to use the Manual cycle or are you referring to Auto probe as in a program? For writing it into a program, do the following:

Press the far right menu key and you'll see a button for "MMS". Press that to write in a probe cycle. Once you create a MMS sequence, when you get to PTN, you'll see a number of probey cycle options. The one you want will say "BORE X-Y". Press that. Fill in the rest of the prompts for position, size, etc. and whalla! You have a probe bore cycle.

Of course, if its been awhile since you've used the probe, you want to calibrate it first. The Calibration cycle is also in the same MMS menu. You'll need to indicate the stylus for runout, a ring gage mounted and swept in for position and a short calibration program.

You can also use the manual measure function as well which utilizes the machine jog to find the part. This is a neat feature as well since it will also do some other functions like bore, boss, slot and web among single point. To use this, go to the MEASURE display...
