SQT 250M / Fusion 640T Tail Body Question

Is it possible to program a tail body move on this machine? I know how to move it in the manual mode, but don't see anything in the manuals about moving it in the auto mode. The tail stock doesn't have enough travel for the long part we are trying to machine, so we need to do both a tail stock and tail body move to clear a long drill and reamer.

    M31-tailstock body forward
    M32-tailstock body backward
The best way to learn is trial error.

    Sqt 250m 640t

Hey....I got one of them too, same control!

Check your manual for M-codes....some of them are 3-digit, and unique to the machine.....the list is pretty extensive!

If you're still having trouble tomorrow, I'll check my manuals at work and help out. Haven't had occasion to do it myself, but if there's a code to clamp and unclamp, or the M31/M32 include the clamping/unclamping and extension of the little gizmo from the carriage that moves the whole assembly.....it should be pretty easy.

    Update

In checking the book, M10 is 'Tailbody disconnect', and M11 is 'Tailbody connect'. ...Note: I don't see mention of whether or not the command includes clamping/unclamping!!

    Then, there's
    M74 Workpiece rest unconnect
    M75 Workpiece rest connect
    M78 Workpiece rest dog valid
    M79 Workpiece rest dog invalid
    M86 Workpiece rest-1 unclamp
    M87 Workpiece rest-1 clamp
    M88 Workpiece rest-2 unclamp
    M89 Workpiece rest-2 clamp

    Izzat the Tailbody???? I dunno!

My machine is not on at the moment, but I don't think it'd hurt to MDI those codes...and if you hear a 'clunk', then it's hooked up to something!

The M31/32 are 'Tailstock forward' and 'Tailstock backward', respectively.

So, M10/M11 and M31/M32 are different animals!

I haven't tried moving the Tailbody through a program...but to test it I'd try MDI input just to see what happens....which brings us to the question of the movement of the turret....I'd guess you'd use the X and Z values of the selected tool, moving it in X to clear from the change point, back in Z to pick up the Tailbody, execute the M10 (which I HOPE includes an unclamping!!) moving it to your favorite location, execute the M11, then the M31.....and so on.

I'd like to see how you end up programming that! ...in case I need to do it!

Well, we were able to run the part without a tailbody move by shortening the drill and reamer and tweaking the tailbody position to get all of the tailstock travel available. The back of the toolholders just clear the point of the center. (I smell a crash coming) Of course now that the job is running I won't get the chance to figure out programming a tail body move. I'd really like to figure this one out for future use. fizzissist - If you get bored and try this out, let us know what you find! Thanks for the help.
