Cutting figure 8 grease groove on t-plus

We have a Mazak lathe at work with a Mazatrol t-plus and we are trying to program a figure 8 grease groove in the bore of a bushing. Does anyone know how to do this?

A figure 8 is a morphed version of a thread with a REALLY HIGH helix angle that had a change of direction once you got to the far end of the thread.

You might be able to cheap up a threading cycle to affect the shape you're looking for but you'll need FAST servos and slower spindle speeds to achieve the affect.

Geof will become famous soon enough

I don't know about Mazak but this can be done using G32 on a Haas. I just tested a little program on my Haas lathe simulator.

Yes this can be done. We do it using a QT35 T32. We use a manual program in mazatrol to do it. If you need some sample code, email me at info@vicioustechnology.au.com.

post it on here so everyone can see, I don't know what you guys trying to do. If you can try to attach CMT format..... I want to try to view it with Cimco.

There's a spiral side milling sample program in the Mazak Programming Classbook that will give you an idea of the equivalent G-code approach. I modified that program to do a demo on our machine, and it comes out beautifully.

I have the program at work, and could photo the page and post it here. It's just a series of radius moves.

I'd imagine that a threading tool in a stationary position or a live station at 0rpm should be easily programmed. Assuming you have C-axis, right?

Use the LCT, and a series of CW and CCW moves with the radius needed.
