Mitsubishi M-H4A RS232 port need help

Hi,

After many hours of TLC on a mitsubishi M-H4A we are up and running

Hope that someone can help with getting Bob Cad to send files to mill.

Right now we only have a RS 232 cable to usb and just no luck.

Looking at getting the Comtrol 30129-5 - ComtrolStore.com

Would that be the right thing to get not able to find paper work on how wires on how to send .

We would like to set up a DNC to send programs to other mills also.

Here is a video of getting things running

Also anyone have the BIG Kaiser Full Cut Mill we mill A36 all the time and looking to upgrade.

Have a bunch of videos and pic's to post need to find some time to do that.

Thanks

A few questions for you:

1. What model control is it?

2. Do you need 8 ports on the serial card? Siig makes a 4-port card they sell for around $50.

3. I believe that Bobcad uses Predator CNC Editor for send/receive... is this what you have?

4. What have you tried to this point, and what were the results?

I believe your cable should be wired as follows:

CNC <----------------> PC DB9 (DB25)

1 <----- shield ------ no connection on PC end
2 <--------------------> 2 (3)
3 <--------------------> 3 (2)
7 <--------------------> 5 (7)
4&5 jumpered together, NC end only
6,8, & 20 jumpered together, NC end only

Hello

I agree with dcoupar to link the wires:

4&5 jumpered together, NC end only
6,8, & 20 jumpered together, NC end only

but for my money I would do it at both ends ... on 9 pin these will be 7&8, 1,4&6. It is not always necessary but does no harm either!

Also I would start by using 'Hyperterminal' to send files .... that is assuming you have files in a format you would expect the mill to accept. Send very small files, the smaller the better, and edit them in NotePad until the mill accepts them ...... big files and 'drip-feeding' can come later.

Good Luck

Richard

Just curious why you would recommend starting with Hyperterminal and Notepad, when he already has a CNC editor with built-in RS232 communications?

Doesn't the machine manual have a communications section explaining how to set parameters, cable, etc?

Hello Decoupar

I do not know the products that HobbiesZone has so I start from what I know ..... old age I guess .....

The only times that this approach has failed is when tackling controls with personalised parameters etc.

Regards

Richard

Wink Be careful

Hi,
I agree, why would you want to part with $500 bucks for ports when $50.00 will do.

On some of the mitsubishi controls there is an issue with the port settings. You will need to set the PC comms to 7 data, Even parity 1 or 2 stop bits and a baud rate of probably 9600, whereas the cnc control will need to be set to 8 data bits, no parity. They have had it wrong for a long time. Be sure to set the baud rates to the same i.e. 9600. Also the mitsubishi will need you to send a % at the start.

Would it be SWEET to have a manual with that part we only got one book and that part is missing. There is just so little info on the web on this mill.

Would like to post some Pic's but not able to any have to use photobucket and link them.

Also will post the control type it is the 520 something.
