Need help with QT 10 w/ T1 control

I was recently given a nice Quick turn 10 (1984) and I finally have it powered up. I have some issues.
Known problems:
parameters are gone - I have a list to enter them.
backup battery is dead - have new battery but don't know where it goes as old one was removed by previous owner before it was in my possession.
When I attempt to power up machine from front control panel it starts but turns off as soon as I release button. If I hold button down the CRT says"mazatrol T1 CPU down" . I don't know if that is caused by the parameter situation or what. The machine was running fine when it was mothballed a couple years ago. Please help me get this nice clean machine running.

OK, I found another thread that suggests I have a low voltage power supply issue - which I suspected. It is causing the power turning off and cpu down problem. Where exactly is the low voltage power supply on this machine.

you have to T1 initialize

then loading parameter by hand or you have to use MDT32 program by RS232 port

I am getting somewhere.

OK, I removed all the boards in front of the power supply and checked all the voltages and all were good 5v -12v +12v 24v. I then replaced the boards but removed all honda plugs coming from them. The machine acted the same and would turn off as soon as I let go of the on button. I then discoverered that if I removed the #2xxx plug (the one that powers the lx131 board) from the power supply that the machine would stay on. It would appear there is an issue with the LX 131 board. Any thoughts?

I think the lx 131 board is bad

I have the backup battery replaced and the parameters entered. I am now getting a e-stop alarm and overtravel alarms in both directions on both axis. To get the machine to power up I need to leave the power plug for the lx 131 board disconnected as well as the short jumper that goes from lx 131 to the front board - i think lx 56 or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

dadof3, have you tried connecting the LX131 board with nothing connected to the LX131 board? Usually when the power supply doesn't stay on like you had it is because there is a short in the cabling somewhere (very common with the chuck foot switch cable.) The LX131 board handles a lot of the signal to and from the machine so that is why you are getting e-stop and over travels, because the control is not seeing those switches right now

An update

Morn - thanks for the info I will try to decipher it.

On the bumper - I forgot to mention that I already tried that. I isolated the LX 131 board - there were no cables going to it and when I plugged in the power cable CN2 (not the CND2 cable) the power turns off.

Here is a better description of what is going on.
To get this machine to power up I need to unplug 3 connections
1) P4 plug that comes from LX51
2) CN2 plug that connects the power supply to LX 131
3) The short ribbon jumper cable that connects LX 131 to LX 51

One other thing I observed.
If I plug the CN2 plug into the power supply while the machine is running, It will not shut off until the 24v connection is made. That connector is on the far left of the plug and if i start by inserting the right end of the plug into the socket and work towards the left, you can see a little spark at the 24v pin and a little spark in a clear relay a little below and left of the socket on the power supply. The machine stays running until that 24v connection is made.

Also, I checked the 5v power supply in the front control panel and it is fine.

I spoke with Mitsubishi this morning and they just want me to send the control to them - I was hoping for a little more help/info from them.

I was getting 6 alarms:
28 e-stop
over and under travel from both axis
parameter alarm

I entered the parameters and the eliminated the parameter alarm.

I believe the P4 plug being disconnected is the cause for the over/under travel alarms

I think that is everything I can offer for now. I thank you for all the help so far and look forward to getting this machine going.

1 more thing

I forgot to mention that at one point I removed the lx131 board from the machine and inspected it best i could. I also checked for shorts to ground and the like. Is there anyone who has info on testing the lx 131 board?

If you disconnect everything from the LX131 board except the power supply connection (CN2) and it will not power up then it points to either a short in the LX131 board or a weak power supply (I'm leaning toward a short in the LX131). I'm sorry but I do not know anyone besides Mitsubishi that knows how to repair these. Maybe you can send the LX131 board to them to have it checked out. They will only charge an inspection fee if they do not find anything wrong with it.

Another update

I thought about what you said and agreed that there must be a short on the lx 131 board. I removed it again and looked at some capacitors I was suspicious of before. I found a shorted cap on the 24v circuit. I replaced the capacitor and now I can plug all harnesses into all boards and the machine fires up. There are no alarms sometimes but other times overtravel on both axis shows. Sometimes the load meters are at 200% when it powers up sometimes 0%. I can't move anything. I haven't fiddled with it much yet - I just put the board back in less than an hour ago.

Still won't move

I tried a few different things but it won't move. There are asterisks where the position numbers should be. Is there an initialization procedure I should have performed before I entered the parameters? I think I have a parameter issue but I think my parameter list is accurate. I just think I needed to initializre it somehow first. Any body ever lose battery power in their t1 before?
