Hi guys, Can anybody educate me on how to program a T-2 control to cut pipe threads ? The mazatrol programming isn't real clear to me how to get the taper in the right direction and not start at the bottom of the thread and work it's way out. I'd be very thankful for any help I can get . |

| First off, I have never cut pipe threads on the Mazak. All charts I have found for pipe threading state the pitch diameter. Not very helpful on the Mazak. Threading on Mazak is done primarily by the stating the major diameter of the thread. Pipe threads have a 3/4" taper per foot or a 1.79° taper from centerline. Using this value, you would calculate the starting diameter smaller than the pipe finish diameter. For example, a 1/2" male pipe thread has a major diameter of 0.840". Ballpark starting diameter is 0.800" based on 1/2" pipe fitting here on my desk. Length would be 0.640" to achieve the 1.79° taper. Program would have Thread OUT, 0.07143" lead, starting diameter X 0.8, Z0, end diameter X0.84, Z0.64 all in same line. If this info is wrong, please correct me. I am not standing at the machine to try this out. ![]() Here is a link to on line charts for pipe threads: http://www.engineersedge.com/hardwar...pe-threads.htm |
