I have been given the task of creating a maintenance schedule for replacing all batteries on a (MAZAK VARIAXIS 630-5X w/ a MAZATROL 640m 5x control). Where can I find info that lists/shows where all replaceable batteries can be located on this machine? |

| The CNC Battery is located in the control behind the screen. The battery is directly behind the two seven segment led's that normally display '19.'. One or more of the MDS drives in the electrical cabinet may have batteries and they may not. On each drive there is a small door labeled battery. Check to see what drives if any have batteries as most machines will not use these. Any MRJ2 auxiliary axis drives will have batteries. The problem with these is that they can be located in the electrical cabinet but also in other parts of the machine. For example there may be one located by the tool magazine. You may want to contact Mazak to find out exactly how many MRJ2's are on your machine. Lastly you may have a relocation device on the machine that also uses a battery. It is a small plastic box in the electrical cabinet. That should cover all of your batteries for that machine. |

| Hi Tim, There are 3 x MRJ2 batteries. 1. Magazine: At the back of the machine in a cabinet under the rear access for magazine. 2. Pallet Door: On top of the machine above the pallet change door in a cabinet. 3. Pallet Load Arm: In the main cabinet toward the top right. When you replace these be prepared for the worst. Instructions say to leave power on while disconnecting old and reconnecting new battery to prevent loss of parameters. This makes sense but doesn't guarantee that you won't have to re-teach the drive. Happened to me. As careful as I was, I still ended up having to get the techie to come and reload the parameters. Wasn't all that straight forward either.

| I can guarantee without a doubt that you will have to reprogram the parameters if you change that battery behind the control door, close to the led number display. Before you replace that one, which is a $80 Lithium battery, make double sure you save your parameters and programs to disk. Our battery failed, and no one thought to back up the programs and parameters. Thank god Mazak still had a copy of the original parameters and such for this machine. Mitsubishi or Mazak can walk you through the steps to back all that info up. |
