    repeat tapping

can I re-tap holes, incrementally deeper on a VTC with m-plus control?

Currently, it won't do it, the tap doesn't orient to the same starting position every time.

I'm not 100% sure, but on a fanic / fadal , to do repetitive tapping:
    G0 X0.0000 Y0.0000 Z0.1000
    G84.1 X0.0000 Y0.0000 R0+.1000 S900.2 Z-.5 F28.125 ( Feed is the pitch times the 900 rpms a 32 pitch would be 900x.03125 = )
x0.0000 y0.0000 s900.2 z-.8125 ( must be a length of the pitch on some models)
    x0.0000 y0.0000 s900.2 z-1.125 ( and ten more threads )
    G80

start at .1 above the part and goes .5 deep then 10 threads then ten more. it will always retract to .1 for each depth.
We have to call out the speed on every line if your going into the same hole deeper.
You in the machine your working on maybe in a macro.
you must be able to replete by just calling your taping cycle at the depth of pitch deeper.

Maybe that's why you think it does not replete at the spindle location.

Isn't the spindle oriented at the start point?

I know in ISO the Speed must be stated in the canned cycle, and not before, to retain orientation.
My Variaxis retains orientation in Mazatrol and I figure this is set in the parameters somewhere.

that's what I'm hoping for, a parameter somewhere

I've searched the pdf version of the manual, but I dont have access to the electrical manual right now, I know it lists some more parameters.

Are you 100% certain that your machine is set up for "Rigid Tapping". This option is what tells the tap to start in exactly the same point of entry into the material. You will fight this if your machine doe not have rigd tapping options. Just my 2 cents.
Just a good ol' boy, never meanin' no harm.

Ah yes, well spotted JoBwan. I now recall seeing this in the list of options (of which there are many).
I believe they are cost options when ordering the machine.
Why rigid tapping would be a cost option and not a standard feature is beyond me.
    Good place to start.

it does rigid tapping, that's the only way I ever tap anything on the machine
the default setting for a tap in the tool data page is "FIX"

On the older AJV we have, I have to change it to fixed every time, I wish I could set it to default like the VTC does, maybe that'll be my next parameter hunt
