reverse taper on quick turn lathe

I am using a quick-turn 28n with a mazatrol t-23-2 control.

I need to produce a taper with the smallest end towards the chuck and the bigger end towards the tailstock. I only need about .005 of taper. If i try to do this in a normal turning cycle i get the alarm Reverse contour. I know that i could manually program this but i would rather not because this taper is just a small part of a fairly complex part. Is there another way? Thanks

Brad

Brad,

Are you using the taper option in the program? If you are then your problem possibly lies with the way your tool is described in the tool page. If you are decribing say a CNMG 432 insert it will give you trouble due to the geometry. Try decribing a 35 or 55 deg turning tool.

"reverse contour" is due to violate program parameter. Change the parameter it will go away. I believe the default is .002, to test this try program it with taper .0018 smaller and if it is work then ...... change parameter.

U36 on Fusion and earlier is "reverse shape contour tolerance Z". It's TC55 on Matrix.

I'm not sure if it applies to X reverse tapers?

sounds like the tool geomotry is not correct I have done it many times with old t2 and 640. use taper never changed the tpc data or paramaters. could also be the min MATL. DIA.

I don't think so, "reverse contour" alarm only programming side. Unless someone can prove me wrong.

Unfortunately i can't attach a photo of the program because it has already been deleted. I ended up making a small "manual programming" to finish turn the trouble spot. It worked out for me. I would like to have played with this problem more but i just didn't have the time. Next time i have some free time i will try to figure it out. It could very well be something small that i have overlooked

Thanks for the tips.
