TPC and engaged tailstock | | TPC in your case means "tool path control". (TPC can also mean "temporary parameter change")
The coordinate system in TPC matches the coordinate system of the unit it's applied to. So a BAR OUT unit using Z25.0 would be -25.0 in machine coordinates, as per the previous post. A minus Z in a Bar out unit would be to the right side of Part Program Zero, in other words.
So you have to program a "pass through" intermdiate point to go TO AND FROM turret index position (Parameter P17 for all except Matrix) to enter the mazatrol machining. A BAR OUT unit with rough and finish tools would require this to be done in TPC FOUR TIMES. rough approach, rough retract, finish approach, finish retract.
Plan B is to set P17 to 4, which sets the turret index position to a fixed point in machine coordinates as a departure from home/reference position. The magnitude of this departure is controlled by another set of parameters for each axis. The book says A5 parameter, (but this is off in Matrix parameter books.) The machine coordinates in Z should be set to get the turret face co-planar to the face of the shaft in the work area.
You can keep your global P17 for all normal stuff, and set P17 in the TPC to 4 for the times when a tailstock is engaged.
